Lummi Nation Housing Authority (LNHA) was awarded a grant by Puget Sound Energy (PSE) to facilitate the construction of a rooftop solar panel system at Sche’lang’en Crossroads.
Through its Green Power Solar Grants, PSE has awarded over $780,000 in total grant funding to various local organizations in its service area in 2024. LNHA is proud to be one of this year’s recipients, aligning with PSE to take on several challenges at once: supporting the expansion of cleaner energy and a healthier environment through solar technology, lowering energy-related operation costs, and making a push to a more inclusive green energy future.
Construction of the solar array began on March 5th and was completed March 11th. This swift installation was completed with Western Solar – who has done wonderful work on several other solar arrays on the reservation – and with the help of one Lummi TERO worker who was able to join in on this install. We thank everyone for their hard work on this installation! This 83-panel system will fulfil most of the monthly electrical needs of the building once it passes its inspections and is connected to the power grid this April. The rooftop solar array at Crossroads is a great step towards improving energy efficiency and energy sovereignty on the Lummi Reservation, and LNHA is grateful to PSE for their financial support in our shared mission to implement green energy!
