DO NOT USE FLUSHABLE WIPES

November 26, 2025

We recently have had several issues with backed up plumbing that have resulted in very costly repairs due to clogged pipes caused by WIPES.

Facts about “flushable” wipes:

Flushable wipes cause plumbing issues because they don’t break down in water like toilet paper, leading to clogs in household pipes and public sewer lines. These clogs can form from the wipes snagging on pipe joints or combining with grease to create large backups, damage pumps, and lead to expensive repairs for homeowners and municipalities. The only products that should be flushed are human waste and toilet paper.

How flushable wipes cause plumbing problems

  • They don’t disintegrate: “Flushable” wipes are made from durable fibers that do not break apart quickly in water, unlike toilet paper.
  • They accumulate and clog: Wipes can snag on pipe joints and bends, accumulating over time and forming large blockages in both household plumbing and the municipal sewer system.
  • They combine with other waste: When wipes meet grease and other debris in the sewer, they form massive, solid masses that are extremely difficult to remove and can cause severe backups.
  • They damage infrastructure: Clogged sewer lines can lead to sewage backing up into homes, causing costly cleanups. At the city level, they can damage pumps and disrupt the entire sewage treatment process.

What to do instead

  • Throw them in the trash: The only way to avoid these issues is to dispose of wipes in a trash can.
  • Use a lidded can: To manage disposal, you can use a small can with a lid and a scented bag inside.
  • Only flush toilet paper: Remember the “three Ps”: only flush pee, poo, and paper (toilet paper).

Please be aware, any further plumbing issues may result in tenants being charged for the repairs.
